On this day, August 18, 1949, German shoemaker Adi Dassler founded adidas. The sports shoe company has grown over the years from a humble shoe company from a small town in southern Germany to one of the biggest sports apparel brands in the world. To celebrate their 65th birthday, an archive of the first shoes and catalog from the three-stripe brand were on display on adidas Archive.
The page gives very distinct information about how the company got its name, as the company was going to be known as “addas.” The shoes showcased each show a range of very innovative designs and features from an impressionable Adi Dassler. Before finally deciding on the signature three stripes that would be known as the company’s trademark, Adi Dassler’s first adidas shoes would experiment with the number of stripes on each shoe. Some models had two stripes. Others would have four stripes. As many as six stripes would appear on some of adidas’ first shoes.
