English Championship Promotion Hopefuls Showing New Looks

The Football League Championship, England’s second tier of soccer, kicks off on Saturday, August 9. The league is known for high quality and intense competition and is on par with many European top divisions. This is the first in our four part series looking the kits of The Championship for the 2014/15 season. We’ll start with the promotion favorites.
The American owned club ended a twelve year stay in the Premier League (which included an appearance in the UEFA Europa League Final in 2010) with relegation at the end of last season. With much of last season’s team still on their books, The Cottagers are favorites for promotion.
During this season’s run they’ll be wearing home and away kits from adidas featuring tonal stripes and very visible orange accents. Their home shirt is in the now familiar Fulham white while the away shirt is black and grey.
The Canaries also suffered relegation at the end of the 2013/14 season. They’ll be looking for a quick bounce back from a league in which they’ve had recent promotion success.
Norwich City will continue to wear kits from Italy’s Errea this season with their home kit in their usual yellow with a heavier than usual dose of green in the shoulder area. The away shirt is a round neck affair that uses tow shades of dark red. Norwich continues to use investment house Aviva as its kit sponsor.
Cardiff City will return to the Championship after one year in the Premier League in self-branded kits (under Cosway Sports) following the end of their deal with PUMA.
The Welsh club have produced commendable designs in the home red and away blue of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team. The name of owner Vincent Tan’s home country of Malaysia appears in the shirt sponsor area to promotion tourism to the Asian nation.
Now in a second consecutive season in The Championship, Wigan Athletic enjoyed a good season last term with their first ever UEFA Europa League campaign, a semi-final appearance in the FA Cup and qualification for the promotion playoffs.
With less non-league distractions in 2014/15, The Lactics look set for another promotion push in kits from relatively unknown fitness brand MiFit. The classic feel jerseys carry the logo of new shirt sponsor Intersport (a sportswear retail giant with stores throughout Europe). They recently sold the first rear of the jersey sponsorship with PremierRange.co.uk taking the placement above the player’s number.
Defeated 2013/14 promotion playoff finalists Derby County FC are back with Umbro for the new season and among the bookies favorites for a return to the Premier League.
The Rams will make their run for the promised land of English soccer in a white home kit with a classic vibe reminiscent of the shirts of the 1960s and 70s and a v-neck navy blue away jersey with horizontal pinstripes.

Firmly establish The Championship and also an oddsmaker promotion favorite, Watford FC is back in PUMA home and away uniforms for the 14/15 season. The home jersey is a simple variation of The Hornets yellow shirt while the away kit features black and white stripes.
The alternate strip is inspired by the Watford uniform of 1914 – the last worn by many of the team’s players before they went off to World War I.
