Ronaldo Laces Up 5 Colorways on Way to Ballon d’Or

Cristiano Ronaldo took home the 2013 Ballon d’Or on Monday.
The first weapon for the 28-year-old is his Nike Mercurial Vapors. The forward relied on 5 colorways to bag his 69 goals and 15 assists in 59 matches. And critics thought he would not be able to match the 63 goals from 2012!
Ronaldo opened the year with a special Mercurial Vapor celebrating his phenomenal year in 2012. The cleat cut through the hype and just focused on the numbers – 1, 9, 14, 19, 27, 55, 60, including them on the cleat along with an impossible to miss CR7. The breakdown is simple; Ronaldo became the 1st player to score against all 19 La Liga opponents during the year, he laced them up 14 times for Portugal and scored 9 goals for his national side, and the then 27-year-old scored 60 goals in 55 matches for Real Madrid.
The commemorative cleat was only used a short time and not available for sale to the public although the World Soccer Shop had a few pairs to use in promotional give-aways. He then turned to the original Fireberry colorway of the new Nike Mercurial Vapor IX.
Nike has always been good at creating a special look for their star player and shortly after the initial release of the new Mercurial IX the U.S. based brand unveiled the CR7 edition of the cleat. The orange/black/yellow/white upper was eye catching but the orange/yellow leopard print swoosh made the cleat stand out.
A new look came ahead of the new La Liga campaign. Ronaldo laced up a pair of the new Volt/Bright Citrus colorway.
Ronaldo’s play had been out of this world for 2013 and to close out the year he showcased the stellar campaign with another special cleat from Nike. The ‘galaxy’ edition CR Mercurial was a fitting way to cap off 2013.
It is not all about the cleats and Ronaldo made sure to impress while wearing the official jerseys of BOTH his club team Real Madrid and his national side Portugal.
