SD Eibar to Sport Hummel Jerseys in La Liga Debut

SD Eibar has taken an interesting road to La Liga and will sport Hummel jerseys in the 2014/15 campaign. It will be the first time in the top division of Spanish soccer and the first time in Hummel for the Armeros, the Gunners.
The look won’t be completely new to La Liga fans, if anything it may be somewhat confusing for novice fans. SD Eibar wears a jersey with vertical claret and blue stripes very similar to the Barcelona jersey.
The jersey has an insert collar with blue around the neck and claret color on the front inset. The sleeves are solid claret with a blue cuff. The Hummel chevron logo are down the side seam and transition to the solid blue back.
The team badge is over the right chest, Hummel logo over the left chest, and the Hierros Servando jersey sponsor across the center chest.
The away jersey breaks from tradition. The team has worn a green away look but this year will go with a sky blue jersey with white details on the collar insert and on the sleeve cuffs.
The goalkeeper jersey in red with black details.
The journey to the Spanish top division has been more difficult that merely winning games. After taking care of business on the field, the side had to raise $2.32 million to meet league regulations on capital required to play with the big boys. The team met that goal by selling shares for $67 with no one entity allowed to purchase more than $134k in the team. They beat the August 6 deadlines with a couple of weeks to spare.
The second hurdle will take longer to clear. Ipurua, the team’s hillside stadium, holds 5,250 but La Liga requires venues to hold 15,000. Fortunately they have 2 seasons to achieve that goal but have started the process with an expansion underway that will take the stadium to 6,700.
The club is not a complete unknown to the players in Spain. It regularly has signed top name players on loan from bigger clubs with the likes of Xabi Alonso and David Silva playing at the Ipurua early in their careers.
What do you think of SD Eibar’s rise to La Liga? Do you like their new jerseys for the 2014/15 season?
