Southampton Football Club has announced that they will part ways with adidas beginning with the 2014/2015 season. This news comes after months of discussions between the club and the supplier regarding a kit for the new season.
The decision for the Southampton Saints to terminate their contract with adidas was made around early December 2013, according to the club. However, the Saints kept discussions with adidas ongoing in the months after in order to try and reach an agreement. Unfortunately the long-term deal between Southampton and adidas, which was just signed last summer, has come to an untimely end.
Executive Chairman Nicola Cortese of Southampton decided it was the right decision in December, just a month before Cortese’s resignation from the club. In a press release from Southampton, the club noted that “short lead times” were to blame for the relationship issues between the Saints and adidas. The club went on to mention that there will be exciting news regarding their 2014/2015 kit in the coming months when they begin their partnership with new main club sponsor Veho. The new sponsorship begins July 1.
